Feni woman stages sit-in at boyfriends residence in Ramganj demanding marriage

A young woman from Feni has been staging a sit-in for the past two days at the residence of her alleged boyfriend in Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur, demanding that he marry her. The woman began her protest on Sunday afternoon in front of the home of Emon Hossain, a Qatar-based expatriate, located in Ward 5 of Chandipur Union.
The woman claims she and Hossain had been in a long-term romantic relationship, during which he allegedly promised to marry her. She contends that Hossain is now refusing to honor that commitment, prompting her to travel from Feni to his family home to demand they formalize their union. Despite requests from Hossain’s family and local residents to vacate the premises, she maintains she will not leave until the marriage takes place.
Hossain’s mother denied the claims, stating that while the two had communicated by phone, her son—who had returned home on a four-month leave—has since returned abroad. She alleged that the woman is attempting to harass and humiliate their family, noting that the woman had previously visited the home and caused a similar disruption.
Local law enforcement officials expressed skepticism regarding the woman’s claims. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Firoz Uddin Chowdhury reported that the woman had previously staged a similar protest at the same residence on July 1. During that incident, police investigation revealed that the personal information and contact details she provided could not be verified.
Following the July 1 incident, police escorted the woman to a magistrate’s court for her safety, and she was subsequently released under her own recognizance. Authorities have been unable to reach Hossain for comment regarding the allegations.
