Farmer files complaint after pet dog killed in Chatmohor

CHATMOHOR, Pabna — A pet dog was killed with a crowbar in Agashoil village, located in the Haripur Union of Chatmohor Upazila, on Friday morning, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
The dog’s owner, a local farmer named Solaiman Pramanik, stated that he was working in his fields when the incident occurred. Upon returning home, he was informed by his mother that their neighbor, Naim Hossain, had struck and killed the animal with a crowbar. Pramanik has formally requested justice for the killing of his pet, noting that the accused has also threatened to kill two other dogs belonging to the household.
Chatmohor Upazila Livestock Officer Swapan Kumar Sarker arrived at the scene following reports of the incident. After conducting a necropsy, Sarker stated that the animal sustained a fatal blow to the ribcage. Preliminary findings suggest that the dog died from excessive internal bleeding caused by lung injuries. The livestock office is prepared to submit a formal report to the police if a case is filed.
Naim Hossain, the accused, admitted to the killing when approached for comment. He alleged that the dog had bitten several of his goats on Thursday and had caused ongoing issues for local residents by attacking livestock, including goats and chickens. He stated that he killed the dog out of frustration and reiterated his intent to eliminate the remaining two dogs in the vicinity.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatmohor Police Station, Oliur Rahman, confirmed that they received verbal reports of the incident and coordinated with the livestock department to secure the site. The police have instructed the owner to file a formal complaint. Rahman stated that once a case is registered, authorities will conduct a formal investigation and take appropriate legal action.
