Chittagong police record 125 murder cases in ten months as gun violence surges

At least 125 murder cases have been recorded in the Chittagong Metropolitan area between August 2024 and May 2025, according to data provided by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police. Separate figures indicate that 25 individuals were killed within the first seven months of this year.

An analysis of 35 high-profile homicide cases from this period reveals a concerning prevalence of firearm usage, with 22 of the victims having been killed by gunfire. Beyond the fatal incidents, authorities have documented numerous cases involving gunshot injuries and acts of violence intended to instill public terror.

Investigations into these shooting incidents have identified a recurring group of suspects. At least 13 individuals have been repeatedly linked to the investigations involving the use of firearms in these crimes.
