Another 171 people got sports cards

A new ray of hope for the development of sports was lit up when 171 players received sports cards as a symbol of recognition and an allowance of one lakh rupees. It’s not just an honor, but an emotional culmination of a long wait.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque handed over the cards and allowances at a ceremony organized at the auditorium of the National Sports Council on Sunday. A total of 300 players have come under this benefit with these 171 newly added in the second phase of the government’s sports allowance program.
The plan is to gradually induct 500 people. Apart from cricket, players from various disciplines including football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting, table tennis, chess and archery have joined it, while for the first time a national women’s hockey team has also been included, creating new horizons.
This initiative is not only a financial aid but also a recognition of the struggle of the players. The decision to update the list with performance evaluation every four months is expected to instill a spirit of competition among the athletes. Players like Tapu Burman and Sohail Rana of the national football team feel this will create positive pressure to sustain performance.
Female players are also excited about the initiative, hoping for more inclusion in the future. However, some limitations remain. Some are left out of the list due to expatriate players having complications or failing dope tests. But overall it is a great achievement for the sport.
This sports card is not just an identity, it is a touch of a dream, which informs the young generation that the value of the sweat shed on the field will one day return, in recognition of the state, respect and new doors of possibilities.
