Flowering roadside in Moulvibazar village becomes popular local attraction

MOULVIBAZAR, Bangladesh — A rural thoroughfare in the Ajmeru village of Mostafapur Union, located in the Moulvi Bazar Sadar Upazila, has transformed into a local attraction, earning the nickname the “Flower Road.” Stretching for approximately half a kilometer near the Bird Park and Eco Village, the road is flanked by vibrant floral displays that stand out against the backdrop of expansive green paddy fields typical of the monsoon season.
The roadside landscape is dominated by Crape Myrtle trees, known locally as Furus, which are currently in full bloom. Following frequent monsoon rains, the petals appear particularly fresh, creating a vivid display of white and various shades of purple that catch the eyes of travelers passing through in CNG-run autorickshaws and other local transport.
The botanical diversity along the route includes a variety of other species, such as Purple Funnel Vine and rows of Allamanda, the latter of which creates a natural green wall punctuated by bright yellow blossoms. The area also features Hijal trees, which are typically found in wetland regions. While the peak flowering season for Hijal has passed, a few lingering blossoms continue to release their characteristic sweet fragrance. Additionally, the route is lined with Jarul trees, which, having finished their blooming cycle, are currently bearing clusters of fruit.
Local residents report that the floral installations have turned the stretch into a destination for visitors from neighboring areas. The initiative to plant these trees was spearheaded by the management of the Bird Park and Eco Village, which sought to enhance the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Authorities overseeing the project have expressed intentions to expand the floral coverage to other sections of the road. However, they acknowledged that maintaining vegetation in open, public spaces presents significant challenges. The park management has emphasized that the long-term success of the project relies on the cooperation of local residents to protect and nurture the saplings.
As the road continues to evolve, it serves as a testament to local environmental efforts, turning a functional rural pathway into an aesthetically significant feature of the Moulvi Bazar landscape. With ongoing plans for expansion, the community hopes the route will eventually become an extended corridor where the beauty of the journey rivals the destination itself.
