Police Open Fire During Clash With Armed Robbers In Narayanganj
A violent confrontation erupted in Narayanganj's Araihazar upazila early Sunday as police exchanged chase with a gang of armed robbers attempting to stage a highway heist. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:15 AM along the Araihazar-Bishnandi road in the Jalakandi area, where criminals had blocked the thoroughfare with fallen trees.
According to law enforcement authorities, a mobile patrol team comprising Sub-Inspector Humayun and three constables rushed to the scene after receiving intelligence about the unfolding robbery preparation. Upon arrival, the patrol unit was met with aggressive resistance as the criminal gang began hurling brickbats directly at the officers.
To bring the volatile situation under control and defend personnel, police retaliated by firing four rounds from a shotgun. Outnumbered and facing armed resistance, the robbers quickly abandoned their blockade and fled into the surrounding darkness before any arrests could be made at the immediate scene.
Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sabzel Hossain confirmed the authenticity of the operation and stated that active efforts are currently underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate. Police officials noted that the same area had witnessed the hijacking of a private car shortly before the clash, though authorities successfully recovered the vehicle from the Mollarchar area roughly an hour later.
