Two Land Office Employees in Lakshmipur Face Disciplinary Action Over Misappropriation of Lease Revenue

The divisional administration has directed the Laxmipur deputy commissioner to recover misappropriated lease funds totaling BDT 1,207,910 and initiate administrative action against two employees of the Raipur Upazila Land Office who allegedly embezzled the state revenue without depositing it into the public treasury.

The directive was issued through an official letter sent to the Laxmipur deputy commissioner on Thursday, signed by Golam Mostofa Munna, senior assistant commissioner at the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office. According to the communication, the financial discrepancy surfaced during an audit of accounts for the 2025-26 fiscal year, which revealed that collections from government lease operations had been withheld rather than remitted to the state exchequer.

The implicated individuals are Jahangir Alam, former head assistant and accountant of the Raipur Upazila Land Office who is currently stationed at the Ramgati Upazila Land Office, and Md Nakib Hossain Shanto, who serves as the certificate Peshkar (Nazir) at the Raipur Upazila Land Office. Audit findings indicated that revenue totaling BDT 109,130 and BDT 1,098,780 collected across two distinct government lease categories were retained instead of being deposited.

The divisional office has instructed local authorities to immediately recover the embezzled funds from the responsible personnel, deposit the money into the state treasury, and enforce formal disciplinary measures in accordance with service rules while keeping the divisional headquarters informed of the developments.

When contacted for a response, Jahangir Alam did not answer multiple telephone calls to his mobile phone. However, Md Nakib Hossain Shanto refuted the allegations of financial embezzlement, claiming that the funds were indeed deposited into the state treasury but omitted from official registries due to a clerical oversight, which triggered the audit objection.

Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner S M Mehedi Hasan did not respond to text messages sent following phone inquiries regarding the official letter. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner for Revenue Mahbub Hasan confirmed receipt of the directive from the divisional administration and stated that necessary legal and administrative steps are currently underway.
