Biman Bangladesh Airlines Staff Arrested With Gold Bars at Dhaka Airport
Customs House officials apprehended a Biman Bangladesh Airlines employee with nine gold bars weighing approximately 1.5 kilograms from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday night (October 17). The confiscated precious metal carries an estimated market value exceeding two million Taka. The arrested airline worker has been identified as Obaidur Rahman.
According to Dhaka Customs House sources, the airport unit of the Dhaka Customs House intercepted and searched employee Obaidur on Thursday night at approximately 11:15 PM. During the pat-down, officials recovered nine gold bars wrapped in tissue paper hidden securely inside his shirt pocket and waist belt.
Speaking on the matter on Friday morning (October 18), Dhaka Customs House Additional Commissioner Kamrul Hasan stated that based on crucial intelligence provided by the detained employee, authorities subsequently apprehended a Biman Bangladesh Airlines passenger. The thorough search operation was conducted in the presence of representatives from various intelligence agencies.
Authorities have initiated formal legal proceedings by filing a case against the detained individual at the Airport Police Station in connection with the smuggling attempt.
