Several online news portals and Facebook pages significantly amplified the panic by framing the incident as a local occurrence. For instance, an online outlet called ‘The Student Journal’ posted the video on June 28 with hashtags such as #Bangladesh and #Parents, helping the clip reach over 8.5 million views. Similarly, a page identifying itself as ‘Bhorer Somoy Online’ shared the footage with an emotive caption urging parents to be vigilant about their choice of daycare, accumulating approximately 2.7 million views. Neither platform provided verifiable details regarding the location or the institution involved, leading a vast majority of viewers to assume the abuse took place in a Bangladeshi daycare.

Independent verification confirms that the incident did not occur in Bangladesh. According to reports from Indian media outlets, including NDTV, the footage originated from a FirstCry Intellitots pre-school and daycare located in the CIDCO area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The incident took place on the morning of June 22. Official records indicate that a mother, who is a local lawyer, had left her 23-month-old child at the facility earlier that day. Security camera footage shows the assault unfolding over a ten-minute period shortly before noon. The victim sustained multiple injuries to the face, nose, lips, chest, back, and legs, requiring medical treatment at a private hospital. Following the discovery of the footage, the child’s guardians filed a police complaint against the pre-school’s CEO and five other staff members. Law enforcement authorities have since confirmed that the investigation is active and centered on the Maharashtra facility, refuting the false claims circulating in Bangladesh.
