Vandals Attack Home of Former State Minister Abdul Kuddus in Natore Following Regional Unrest

A group of unidentified individuals attacked and vandalized the residence of the late Abdul Kuddus, a former state minister and senior Awami League leader, in Gurudaspur, Natore, on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. at the family home located in the Kachharipara neighborhood of Gurudaspur Municipality. According to CCTV footage, a group of people arrived on 25 to 30 motorcycles and began throwing bricks at the main gate, doors, and windows of the residence. The attack, which lasted for about 10 minutes, resulted in shattered window panes and damage to security surveillance equipment.
Abdul Kuddus, who served as the State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock between 1996 and 2001 and led the Natore District Awami League for many years, passed away on August 31, 2023. His residence has remained locked since August 5, 2024.
Asif Abdullah Bin Kuddus, the son of the late politician, suggested that the attack may have been politically motivated. He alleged that his recent social media posts criticizing the local power supply situation may have prompted the assault. He condemned the act, noting that his family did not engage in such conduct during his father’s 25-year tenure in power.
This incident follows a separate report of looting at the residence of Rezaul Karim, also known as Sabuj Fakir, who serves as the joint general secretary of the municipal Awami League and is currently incarcerated in connection with a sabotage case. His family claims that intruders broke into the home late Saturday night, stealing approximately seven bhoris of gold jewelry and 150,000 taka.
Riaz Hasan, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Gurudaspur Police Station, confirmed that authorities received reports of an attempted attack on the former state minister’s house by participants of a procession. However, police stated that no formal complaints have been filed by the victims. Officials have indicated that an investigation will be launched if a written complaint is submitted.
