Utility worker electrocuted during illegal power line disconnection in Dhaka slum

A contract electrical worker died Saturday after suffering a fatal electric shock while attempting to disconnect illegal utility lines in the Korail slum of Dhaka.
Thirty-five-year-old Md. Haidar Hossain, an outsourced assistant lineman, was performing his duties when the accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. According to family members, Hossain inadvertently came into contact with a live current during the operation. Local residents quickly responded to the scene and transported him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Despite urgent medical efforts, doctors pronounced Hossain dead at 4:00 p.m. The victim, a resident of the North Badda area of the capital, originally hailed from the Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi district.
The inspector in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, Md. Faruk, confirmed that the body has been placed in the hospital morgue. Authorities have notified the local police station to initiate standard post-incident procedures.
