Two sons with measles are in two hospitals, distraught father

Due to the high pressure of the patient, the hospital is not getting a bed and instead of getting a bed on the floor, baby Abdullah is being treated. Mother Suma Akhtar was applying cream on her face. And father Saiful Islam was sitting beside his son with a helpless look. The child has sores on the lips, mouth and the rash of measles. And Suma Akhter was applying cream on it.
I went to ask, what happened? Hearing this question, Abdullah’s father Saiful looked up. He said that his son Abdullah had fever 10 days ago. After being kept at home for two days and given fever medicine, he found rashes all over his body. Hastily brought to the DNCC hospital on the same day and found out that the son had measles. After two days of hospitalization, the child’s condition worsened, after which he was admitted to the ICU (intensive care unit). After three days in the ICU, the condition did not change. At one stage, the child was brought from DNCC Hospital to Mohakhali Infectious Disease Hospital on the advice of the doctor. The child is being treated on the fourth floor of the hospital.

Saiful Islam lived with his family in Kamrangirchar area of the capital for 10 years. He runs the family by driving an autorickshaw. He has two sons. The name of the eldest son. Alif, six years old. And the youngest son Abdullah is only 18 months old.
When Saiful Islam was spoken to at Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital in the capital on Friday around 12:30 noon, his elder son Alif was also admitted to DNCC Hospital with symptoms of measles. His mother-in-law is taking care of his elder son. He said that he and his wife are treating their little son at the hospital for infectious diseases.

Saiful Islam said that the condition of the little boy is not good. He said, the situation is not very good. Rashes all over the body. Lips and mouth are worse. The rash on the face has erupted into a sore. Shortness of breath Can’t breathe without oxygen. The doctors said that he should be taken to the ICU again on an urgent basis. Despite many requests, he could not arrange to be admitted to the ICU. So they were forced to put it on the floor and put only oxygen on it.
Saiful Islam said, ‘Abdullah’s condition was so bad yesterday afternoon, it seemed that the boy was gone. Couldn’t breathe. We started crying. After informing the doctor, he quickly arranged an oxygen. Oxygen has been running since then.
Saiful Islam said that he could not be treated in a private hospital and said, “Doctors are repeatedly saying that the condition is not very good, to take him to the ICU of a private hospital as soon as possible.” Private hospital treatment costs a lot. I drive an autorickshaw. How can I raise such expenses?’
Saiful Islam is unable to look for the elder son while running around treating the younger son. He said that he called the mother-in-law and heard that the elder son’s condition is somewhat better. He is tired of running to two hospitals.
Later, around 1:30 p.m., Saiful Islam was met again in front of the emergency department on the ground floor of Mohakhali Infectious Disease Hospital. Then he said, ‘A seat has become vacant in the ICU. The little boy has been taken to the ICU. The doctors said that the condition is not very good. They are trying their best. We are also waiting and calling Allah.
Not only Saiful’s children, more than fifty children are under treatment at Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital with measles and measles symptoms. These children are being treated on the 5th, 6th and 7th floors of the hospital. The fifth floor houses the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
On entering the general ward on the sixth floor of the hospital in the afternoon, sick children are seen lying in rows of beds. A few children are also sleeping on beds in the cramped quarters. Some have a red rash on their face and body. Some are sleeping, some are crying. Some children are given nebulizers. And that’s why the child is crying more. Relatives are trying to calm them down. The nurses on duty were also seen busy providing medical care.
Two-and-a-half-month-old baby Farish is being treated in a bed on the balcony outside the sixth-floor general ward. The child’s grandmother Zohra Begum (45) is sitting next to him. They came from Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi. Visited three hospitals in Narsingdi, Raipura and came to Dhaka. Zohra Begum said that the doctors said that phlegm has accumulated in her grandson’s chest and the blood has also been infected. The treatment is going on for three days.
In the afternoon, Infectious Diseases Hospital Supervisor FA Asma Khan said that seven children were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours with symptoms of measles and measles. No one died there during this time. A total of 54 children are admitted. Among them 12 children are in ICU and HDU.
Asma Khan also said that 1 thousand 45 children were admitted to infectious disease hospital till Thursday. Out of these 888 children returned home after treatment. And 40 children died with symptoms of measles and 7 with confirmed measles.
FA Asma Khan told Prothom Alo that children are coming from all districts of the country with measles and measles symptoms. However, more children are coming from outside Dhaka. Analyzing the data of the 36 children who died early in the hospital, 30 of them were from outside Dhaka, he said.
Asma Khan thinks that the situation will be dire for the next month. He said, ‘Till now the measles situation is fluctuating. Once the fever, cold gets better, children are getting second round. Due to this, panic has been created among the parents. But next one month is very critical time. Children will change area on Eid. This may increase the infection.
