Two Die in Separate Road and Rail Accidents in Dhaka

A 22-year-old garment worker died Sunday morning after being struck by a train while crossing tracks in the Kuril Bishwa Road area of Dhaka. The victim, Rakibul Islam, was heading to his workplace in Gazipur when the accident occurred during a period of light rain.

Eyewitness Abu Raihan, who assisted in transporting the victim to the hospital, reported that Islam was walking across the tracks with an umbrella when he was hit by a train bound for the Airport Railway Station. Following the collision, local residents initially rushed him to Kurmitola General Hospital before he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where physicians declared him dead.

Islam, a native of Char Khalifa in Bhola’s Daulatkhan, was a university graduate who had only recently begun his employment at a garment factory. He resided in the Kuratoli area of Kuril with his family and was the eldest of three brothers.

In a separate incident, a 35-year-old CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver died following a road accident in the Rampura area. The victim, Mohammad Yusuf, succumbed to his injuries at DMCH early Sunday morning after being struck by another vehicle the previous night.

According to his nephew, Mehedi, the accident occurred while Yusuf was attempting to repair his auto-rickshaw, which had broken down on the side of the road. A passing auto-rickshaw struck him while he was working, causing critical injuries that eventually proved fatal. Yusuf, originally from Bakshiganj in Jamalpur, lived in the Rasulpur area of Kamrangirchar and leaves behind a wife and two children residing in his home village.

Inspector Md. Faruk of the DMCH police outpost confirmed that both bodies have been moved to the hospital morgue for autopsies. Local police and railway authorities have been notified to conduct further investigations into the respective fatalities.
