Two Bangladeshi businessmen from Noakhali district have been shot and killed in South Africa within a 24-hour span, marking a sharp escalation in violence targeting expatriates in the country.

The latest incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Johannesburg, where 40-year-old Md. Belayet Hossain was gunned down by unidentified assailants at a local shopping center. According to neighbors of the deceased, who hailed from Mir Warishpur village in the Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, the attackers fled the scene immediately after firing, leaving the victim dead on the spot.

This tragedy follows the fatal shooting of another Noakhali native, 40-year-old Md. Yasin, which took place on Tuesday evening in Port Elizabeth. Yasin was intercepted by gunmen at the gate of his residence and pronounced dead at the scene.

While reports of both killings have circulated widely, official confirmation remains pending. Md. Kayesur Rahman, the Executive Officer of Begumganj upazila, stated that while he is aware of the reports through social media, his office has not yet received a formal notification regarding the deaths of the two expatriates.
