Tourist missing after vanishing in Nikli haor

A search operation is underway in the Nikli haor of Kishoreganj for a tourist who went missing on Friday afternoon after jumping into the water for a swim. The individual, identified as 28-year-old Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Kandania village in Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila, has not been located as of Saturday afternoon.
According to local authorities and police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. while the victim was visiting the wetlands with a group of friends. Witnesses reported that Shafiqul jumped into the water from a boat, but was quickly swept away by strong currents. His companions attempted to rescue him immediately following his disappearance, but were unable to reach him.

Following the report of the incident, a diving team from the Bhairab Fire Service was dispatched to the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. Nikli Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Shahid Ullah confirmed the details of the ongoing search, which has continued into a second day.
