Three Workers Injured in Gas Line Fire at Keraniganj Residential Building

Three construction workers sustained burn injuries early Saturday morning after a gas line caught fire during maintenance work at a seven-story residential building in the Baroitola area of South Keraniganj, Dhaka. The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. while the crew was performing routine cleaning of the utility infrastructure.
According to Sajeeb Mia, the brother of one of the victims, the blaze was allegedly triggered when a cigarette butt was discarded from an upper floor of the building, igniting the exposed gas line. Although workers Sajeeb and Rajan managed to shut off the gas valve almost immediately to contain the fire, the brief flare-up resulted in injuries to all three individuals involved in the maintenance.

The injured—identified as 34-year-old Rakib Hossain, 22-year-old Md. Sumon, and 23-year-old Md. Rajan—were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for emergency care.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute, confirmed that Rakib Hossain suffered burns to 17 percent of his body and has been admitted for specialized treatment. The other two workers sustained minor injuries and were discharged following primary medical care.
