Three of family die in electrocution tragedy while repairing roof in Sunamganj

A routine home repair in Bangladesh’s Sunamganj district turned into a triple fatality on Monday, when three members of the same family were electrocuted while attempting to fix a leaking roof in Anantapur village.
The incident occurred in the Fatehpur Union when 30-year-old Farhad Shah climbed onto the tin roof of the family’s roadside grocery shop to address water leakage. According to local police and family members, Farhad came into direct contact with an overhead power line while working on the roof, causing him to fall to the ground while still entangled with the electrified wire.

In a desperate attempt to save their son, Farhad’s father, 70-year-old Nurul Amin, rushed to his aid and was immediately electrocuted upon physical contact. His wife, 60-year-old Fatema Begum, then attempted to intervene and also suffered a fatal electric shock.
Local residents rushed the three victims to the Bishwambharpur Health Complex, where attending physicians declared them dead on arrival.

Mohammad Shahin Mia, the officer-in-charge of Bishwambharpur Police Station, confirmed the sequence of events and noted that the bodies have since been released to the surviving family members for burial. Following the tragedy, the local community remains in mourning, as the family had been well-known for operating the small grocery store that served the local village.
