A group of students blocked Obaidul Islam, Director (PD) of Patuakhali Science and Technology University’s Further Development Project, on Monday afternoon, on the charge of corruption. He was freed after an hour and a half with the intervention of the university administration.
Obaidul Islam has denied the allegations of corruption. He counter-complained that Chhatra Dal leaders blocked him for not paying subscription money. However, Chhatra Dal leaders have denied this allegation.

It is known from the university sources that the director of further development project (PD) Obaidul Islam was staying in his office this afternoon. At that time 50-60 students locked the door of his room.
HM Samiul, a student who participated in the movement, said, Project Director Obaidul Islam came twice a month to inspect nominal work and disappeared again. The rest of the time he stayed outside the country. He and his people have been doing irregularities and corruption in the project. Low quality materials are being used in all the construction works under the project. Many of the works have defects or errors before they are handed over. In this regard, the administration department, engineering branch and PD of Pobiprabi have been warned and requested to keep the quality of work correct. But they have not taken into account the complaints of ordinary students and have maintained the irregularities and corruption. So ordinary students blocked him as a protest.

After being blocked, Obaidul Islam said in a video message that the President and General Secretary of the University Branch Chhatra Dal demanded 1 percent of the bill paid for the ongoing project. When he refused to pay, they blocked him for an hour and a half. Later he was freed by the intervention of the university administration.
Obaidul Islam also said, “Earlier on April 7, Chhatra Dal leaders came to me with the same demand. I returned them. Today they got angry and locked the door of my office room.
Denying the allegation of demand for subscription, Sohel Rana, general secretary of the university branch Chhatra Dal, told Prothom Alo, “Project director Obaidul Islam gave work to certain individuals or organizations in exchange of money through tender corruption. After that, he has been doing irregular work and corruption step by step. We have requested to maintain the quality of work in the interest of the organization; But he considers the request of ordinary students as unacceptable and is implementing the work by maintaining his irregularities and corruption. So ordinary students blocked him. The allegation of demand of contribution from PD is completely fabricated and baseless. Instead of covering up his crime, he is blaming us.
In this regard, Vice Chancellor Kazi Rafiqul Islam said, he was in Barisal on official work. When the project director Obaidul Islam told the matter on the phone, he called the proctor and registrar on the phone and asked them to solve the matter.
The Vice-Chancellor said that around 2017, more development projects were taken up in the university. The cost is estimated at 435 crores. Many works have been completed in phases. At present the work of 91 crore rupees is going on. Some complications have arisen with the implementation of these projects.
