Teenager Dies Falling From Train Returning For Exams

THAKURGAON, Bangladesh — A 17-year-old high school student, Sohagh Ali, died Friday night after falling under a moving train while attempting to disembark near the Akhanagar railway station in Thakurgaon’s Sadar sub-district. Ali, who was returning home to sit for his upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when Ali tried to get off the Ekota Express train, which does not typically stop at Akhanagar station. Witnesses reported that Ali boarded the train at Thakurgaon station after it arrived from Dhaka’s Kamalapur station around 9:30 p.m.

Sohagh Ali, son of Aminul Islam from Akhanagar’s Choturakhor village, had been working at a chicken farm in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur, while continuing his studies. He was on his way back to appear for the SSC examinations scheduled to begin Tuesday, having failed to pass them the previous year.

Moafizur Rahman, Assistant Station Master at Thakurgaon Road Railway Station, confirmed that Ali was a passenger on the Ekota Express and that the train does not have a scheduled stop at Akhanagar.

Police from the Dinajpur Government Railway Police (GRP) station, led by Officer-in-Charge Md. Fakhrul Islam, recovered Ali’s body from the scene Friday night and transferred it to the Sadar Thana police. An unnatural death case has been filed with the GRP station regarding the incident.
