The court remanded two aides of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s military advisor Major General (retd) Tariq Siddique to three-day remand in the case of the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital’s Newmarket area centered on the July movement.

They are his driver. Mahidul Islam (42) and caretaker (supervisor) Md. Chan Mia (46).

According to the details of the case, on July 19, 2024, a peaceful procession in front of gate number 1 of Newmarket area was attacked with domestic and foreign weapons in a planned manner. These two accused carried and supplied the weapons used in the attack on the movement under the orders of Tariq Siddique. Abdul Wadud (45) was shot dead in that attack. Abdur Rob, the brother-in-law of Abdul Wadud, who was killed on August 21, filed a murder case at Newmarket Police Station as the plaintiff.

A total of 130 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader have been made accused in the case. The investigation officer claimed that the two arrested accused played an active role in the attack by being present at the spot.
