Zishan Mia Pradhan, a central leader of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, has been remanded to Comilla Central Jail following a two-day interrogation by the district detective branch (DB) of police. The court’s decision comes amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of rape and forced abortion filed by a widow from Daudkandi.

Judge Toyor Uddin Ahmed of the Comilla Judicial Magistrate Court issued the order on Tuesday afternoon after police completed their questioning. Zishan, who previously served as the president of the organization’s Comilla West branch and as its assistant international affairs secretary, was initially taken into custody in June after allegations surfaced regarding his exploitation of the complainant.

According to police reports, the investigation began after the victim alleged that she and Zishan had entered into a relationship through social media. The complaint asserts that Zishan repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman under the guise of marriage and subsequently coerced her into terminating a pregnancy. When the victim later demanded he honor his promise of marriage, Zishan allegedly went into hiding to avoid the commitment.

While Zishan’s family had initially filed a missing persons report, claiming he had been kidnapped, police investigators determined that the abduction claim was fabricated. Authorities concluded that Zishan staged his disappearance on June 11 to evade marriage. He was subsequently located in the Laksam area on June 12, following which the victim filed the formal charges.

Zishan had been hospitalized under police guard at Comilla Medical College Hospital following his initial arrest. He was remanded to police custody on Sunday after a medical board declared him fit. While the defense previously filed for bail, the court rejected the motion.

District DB Police Officer-in-Charge Shamsul Alam Shah confirmed that Zishan was presented before the court following the conclusion of the remand period. Officials have declined to disclose details regarding the information provided by the suspect during questioning, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.

Zishan is the primary defendant in the case, which also involves three other individuals. All suspects are currently being held at the Comilla Central Jail, and the organization has since dismissed Zishan from his leadership positions.
