Student injured in Jaipurhat madrasa whipping, police rescued trapped teacher and took him to police station

A student (10) was injured in a flogging at a Hafezia Madrasa in Akkelpur, Jaipurhat. The child has cane injury marks on different parts of his body. Enraged by this incident, the local people blocked and beat the headmaster of the madrasa (Mohtamim). Later the police went and rescued him and took him to the police station. The incident took place at Ramshala Mor area of ​​the upazila at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday.

The injured Nahid Hasan is a resident student of Hefazkhana section of Ramshala Darul Uloom Hafezia Madrasa and son of Mizanur Rahman of Jafarpur village of the upazila.

According to police and local sources, Nahid has been studying in that madrasa for about five years. Madrasa teacher Abu Huraira beat him with a cane yesterday morning as he could not study. In the afternoon, Mizanur Rahman went to the madrasa with breakfast and saw scars on his son Nahid’s body. Then he said that the teacher Abu Huraira whipped him for not being able to study in the morning. When the matter became known, tension spread in the area.

Locals said that teacher Abu Hurairah ran away when the situation became heated. Later, the injured Nahid was taken to the chamber of a local village doctor at Ramshala intersection. When Madrasah head teacher Omar Farooq went there, angry people blocked him and at one stage beat him up. After receiving the information, the police rescued him and took him to the police station.

Omar Farooq said, “The accused teacher fled after the incident came to light. But the allegation of helping him to escape is not correct. Excited people assaulted me.’

Madrasah Management Committee General Secretary Anichur Rahman said, ‘I was shocked to see the condition of the student’s body. Action will be taken against the accused teacher.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akkelpur Police Station Shaheen Reza said that the head teacher was blocked by the angry people over the flogging of the student. On receiving the information, the police went and rescued him and brought him to the police station. No written complaint has been received yet. Legal action will be taken if complaints are received.
