South Korean Ambassador Pledges Continued Support for Bangladesh Manufacturing Sector

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Park Young-sik visited the Fair Electronics Samsung manufacturing plant in Shibpur, Narsingdi, on Wednesday, underscoring the success of bilateral industrial cooperation. The visit, which included Samsung Bangladesh Managing Director Sangmin Jang, served to highlight the facility as a benchmark for technology transfer and local industrial development between the two nations.
During a press briefing at the site, Ambassador Park emphasized Bangladesh’s significant potential within the global manufacturing sector. He noted that by combining the country’s industrious workforce and supportive government policies with Korean technological expertise, Bangladesh is well-positioned to emerge as a key regional production hub. To ensure a stable industrial environment, the Ambassador stressed the importance of robustly implementing and enforcing the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) to prevent tax evasion and curb the influx of grey-market goods.
Fair Group Chairman Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub welcomed the delegation, reaffirming the company’s commitment to strengthening the domestic manufacturing sector through strategic partnerships. Echoing the Ambassador’s concerns regarding market integrity, Al Mahbub urged the government to implement stricter measures against the unauthorized import of mobile devices. He stated that consistent regulatory support would not only boost local production and tax revenue but also catalyze further investment and job creation.
Expanding on the technical scope of the partnership, Samsung Bangladesh Managing Director Sangmin Jang outlined the company’s vision to integrate artificial intelligence across its product range. He noted that the ongoing collaboration with Fair Electronics is focused on maintaining Samsung’s global quality standards while introducing AI-powered televisions, Galaxy AI smartphones, and smart home appliances to the local market, aimed at providing consumers with a more interconnected lifestyle.
The visit also offered an opportunity to reflect on the growth trajectory of the partnership. Fair Group, which began its journey as an official Samsung distribution partner in 2014, successfully transitioned to local manufacturing in 2017. By 2018, the group achieved a milestone by releasing the first locally manufactured Samsung smartphone in Bangladesh. According to company officials, this progression from distribution to manufacturing has established Fair Electronics as a pivotal player in the nation’s journey toward sustainable industrialization.
