SI of Kalabagan police station ‘missing’ after leaving barracks

A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kalabagan police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has gone ‘missing’ from the barracks. His name is Rakibul Hasan Sarkar (32). He did not return after leaving the barracks of Thana Bhawan last Tuesday, saying he was on night duty.

If contacted on Thursday Kalabagan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Fazle Ashiq told Prothom Alo that SI Rakibul Hasan left the barracks of the Kalabagan police station building in plain clothes at around 5:30 pm on Tuesday. After having tea, they entered the barracks again. As he was on night duty, he came out of the barracks in plain clothes again around 8:30 p.m. After that, there is no trace. He is seen as Garhajir (absent).

OC Fazle Ashiq also said that he had mobile phone and charger with him. A General Diary (GD) has been filed at Kalabagan police station in the incident. A radio message has been sent to all police stations in the country regarding SI Rakibul Hasan.

This police official said that Rakibul Hasan’s house is in Bapta village of Sripur upazila of Gazipur. His father Maiz Uddin Sarkar. Rakibul Hasan’s wife lives in their house. According to the personal description, Rakibul has dark complexion, round face, height about 5 feet 8 inches and short and black hair.

OC Fazle Ashiq said that the family members also said that they do not know any trace of SI Rakibul. They are worried about this incident.

Kalabagan police station said that the family members do not understand where Rakibul has gone. The family said that there was no problem with the wife. It is believed that Rakibul was depressed due to high workload or due to family reasons due to his transfer from Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

OC Fazle Ashiq said that Rakibul used to work in Income Tax Department. He left that job and joined the police recently. After that he also served in PBI. He joined the Kalabagan police station a month ago. He also confirmed that Rakib did not have government weapons with him when he left the barracks.

Police officials said SI Rakibul’s mobile phone was switched off from the time he left the barracks. In this situation, his position is not known.
