Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa Takes Charge as Mongla Port Authority Chairman

Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa has officially assumed the role of chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, taking over leadership responsibilities during a formal handover ceremony on Sunday. The transition took place at the port’s conference room, where outgoing acting chairman Commodore Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Sarker transferred the charge. The event was attended by members of the port authority, department heads, senior officials, and representatives from the Officers’ Association and collective bargaining agents.

During the proceedings, Rear Admiral Mostafa was briefed on the status of ongoing development projects, future strategic plans, and various administrative matters. Emphasizing the need for operational efficiency, the new chairman stated that reducing administrative complexity is essential to accelerating the port’s functional performance. He further directed officials to prioritize fiscal discipline, urging them to focus on increasing revenue while maintaining strict cost-control measures. He called upon all employees to perform their duties with diligence and to foster a culture of collective teamwork.

Looking ahead, Rear Admiral Mostafa expressed his intention to organize an immediate consultative meeting with port users to address their needs and streamline services. His appointment brings over three decades of professional experience to the position, following his tenure as chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

Commissioned into the executive branch of the Bangladesh Navy in 1992 after joining in 1990, Rear Admiral Mostafa holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Chittagong and a Master’s degree in Military Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals. Throughout his distinguished naval career, he has held numerous critical command, instructional, and staff roles. His operational experience includes serving as the commanding officer of the frigates BNS Umar Farooq and BNS Samudra Joy, as well as serving as the commissioning captain of BNS Durjoy and the decommissioning captain of BNS Umar Farooq.
