Teenager killed in Noakhali following confrontation with local drug dealers

A 15-year-old student was killed and three others were injured late Wednesday following a violent confrontation with a group of suspected drug dealers in Debisinghapur village, located in the Senbag upazila of Noakhali. The victim, Arafat Hossain, was a tenth-grade student at Pura Hajipur High School and a resident of neighboring Begumganj upazila, where he was visiting his maternal grandparents.

According to family members speaking at the Noakhali General Hospital, the conflict stemmed from a long-standing grievance regarding local illicit activity. Relatives alleged that a known drug dealer identified as Harun and his associates had been using the courtyard and pathways of the family’s property to facilitate drug distribution and consumption for an extended period. Despite repeated requests from the family to cease these activities, the group continued to operate in the vicinity.

The situation escalated on Wednesday night when the family confronted the group as they gathered on the property. While the dealers initially fled after being chased away, they returned shortly thereafter under the leadership of Harun to launch an armed attack on the home. During the ensuing violence, Arafat and two other teenagers sustained severe stab wounds. Arafat was rushed to the 250-bed General Hospital in Noakhali, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 10:45 p.m.

Authorities confirmed that the primary suspect, Harun, was also injured during the altercation. He was taken into police custody while seeking medical treatment at the Senbag Upazila Health Complex. Additional police units have been deployed to search for the remaining suspects involved in the attack.

Additional Superintendent of Police for Noakhali, Abu Tayeb Md. Arif Hossain, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the violence was a direct retaliation for the family’s attempts to intervene in the drug trade. Police have launched an investigation into the murder, and efforts to apprehend the remaining participants in the attack are currently underway.
