Rain will lie next to the graves of grandparents in Madaripur

Preparations for the burial of the body of Bangladeshi student Nahida Sultana Bristhi (26), who was murdered in Florida, USA, have been completed. He will be buried next to the grave of his grandparents after the Asr Janaza on Saturday.
Earlier today at 9:10 AM, the coffin carrying Nahida’s body reached Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport via Dubai on an Emirates Airlines flight. His parents, uncle and family members received the body from the airport.
Nahidar’s village is in Char Gobindpur area of Khwajpur Union of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. His father Zahir Uddin Akon has been living with his family in Mirpur of the capital for more than two centuries. He is working in a private life insurance company in Dhaka. Nahida was the youngest of a boy and a girl. He was pursuing his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of South Florida, Florida.
A crowd of relatives and neighbors can be seen at Nahida’s village house since this morning. The relatives say that they cannot accept such a death in any way.
Obaidur Akon, Nahida’s cousin, said, ‘There was no violence or arrogance in the rain. He was always studying. We cannot believe that he was killed like this.
Nahida’s father, Zahir Uddin, told Prothom Alo on the phone, “The airport authorities handed over my daughter’s body around 11:15 on Saturday.” We left directly for Madaripur. Burial will be done after Baad Asr Janaza at the village house. I never thought that my daughter’s body would have to be carried like this. They killed my daughter with great pain.
Before this, the body of Rain was sent to Dhaka from Orlando International Airport at 8:50 pm local time last Thursday. A representative of the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami was present when the body was taken on the plane. His first funeral was held in Tampa last Wednesday local time. The body of Jamil Ahmed Limon, who was killed in the same incident, reached the country on May 4.
According to family sources, Nahida Sultana passed SSC with GPA-5 in 2014 from Dhaka’s Nahar Academy High School. Later martyr Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar also got GPA-5 in HSC from Girls College. He then completed his graduation in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Noakhali University of Science and Technology. Later, he was admitted to Bangladesh Engineering University as a postgraduate.
Nahida went to the United States on August 25, 2025 after getting a PhD opportunity on a full scholarship at the University of South Florida before completing her master’s degree. He and Jamil Ahmed Limon went missing on April 17. Limon was pursuing a PhD in geography, environmental science and policy at the same university.
Hisham Abu Gharbeh, Limon’s roommate, has been arrested in connection with Rain and Limon’s murder after the disappearance. The 26-year-old is a former student of the university. Meanwhile, the University of South Florida authorities have awarded posthumous doctorate degrees to these two students.
