RAB rescues kidnapped engineer in Chittagong, arrests four suspects

Elite units from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) rescued a Qatar-based engineer on Sunday evening, hours after he was abducted from his home in the port city of Chattogram. The victim, Mohammad Monirul Haque, was recovered by authorities near a forest area in front of the CHSD warehouse at the Railway Academy in the Bandar police station vicinity.

The incident began at approximately 11:00 a.m. when Haque disappeared after leaving his residence at the NR Bhaban on Safa Motaleb College Road in the Mohora area of Chandgaon. Shortly thereafter, his family received a ransom demand from an unidentified caller, who requested 300,000 taka in exchange for the engineer’s safe return.

Following the ransom call, the victim’s family filed a formal police complaint and subsequently sought urgent assistance from RAB. According to an official press release, the battalion launched a recovery operation immediately upon receiving the request at 4:00 p.m. By 6:00 p.m., forces had successfully located Haque and secured his release.

During the rescue operation, RAB arrested four individuals suspected of orchestrating the kidnapping. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Rohan, Mohammad Sayem, Saddam Hossain, and Ziaur Rahman, all of whom are residents of the city’s Halishahar area.

RAB Assistant Director (Media) A.R.M. Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the arrests and stated that formal legal proceedings against the suspects are currently underway.
