Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) personnel recovered a foreign-made pistol from an abandoned site near the residence of the late Sarwar Hossain, alias Babla, in the Chalitatoli area of Chittagong’s Bayezid Bostami district on Friday. Despite the discovery, authorities reported no arrests in connection with the seizure.

According to Assistant Director ARM Mozaffar Hossain of RAB-7, the operation was launched following intelligence reports suggesting that armed individuals were operating in the vicinity. During the search, officers located a U.S.-manufactured 7.65-caliber pistol concealed beneath a flowering shrub. Investigators are currently working to determine the origin of the weapon and identify its owner, noting that the suspects managed to flee the scene before security forces arrived.

Sarwar Hossain was previously involved in a high-profile incident on November 5 last year, when he was shot and killed during a political campaign event held by BNP parliamentary candidate Ershad Ullah.

In the wake of the latest discovery, the victim’s family has cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding the recovery. Sarwar’s mother, Mariam Begum, alleged that RAB personnel dismantled security cameras at their residence upon arrival for the operation. She further suggested that the weapon may have been planted to implicate their family, arguing that had a firearm been left in the open in such a visible location, local residents would have discovered it and notified authorities sooner.

When contacted for comment regarding the family’s allegations, RAB-7 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman indicated via text message that he was unavailable due to official duties.
