RAB Arrests Three More in Connection With 12.5 Million Taka DL Filling Station Robbery

Elite forces have arrested three additional suspects and recovered 4.8 million taka in connection with the armed robbery of 12.1 million taka from a fuel station in the capital’s Uttara area. The arrests follow a series of operations conducted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) over the past four days in Rangamati and Savar.
The suspects, identified as Abdul Hakim, Abdul Jalil, and Kausar, were apprehended following intelligence-led raids. During the operation, authorities seized a foreign-made pistol, ammunition, a magazine, handcuffs, and a wireless set from Hakim. According to RAB, Hakim served as the mastermind behind the heist, while Kausar gathered intelligence and Jalil executed the robbery.
This latest development brings the total number of arrests in the case to eight, with a combined 6 million taka recovered to date. Five other suspects were previously arrested by police on August 14 in Dhaka and Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj, along with 1.2 million taka in stolen cash and weapons.
The robbery occurred on the morning of August 9, when armed assailants intercepted a fuel station employee near the Crowne Plaza hotel on Airport Road while he was en route to deposit 12.1 million taka at a bank. The suspects attacked the employee and fled with the cash. A case was subsequently filed at the Airport Police Station by the manager of the DL Filling Station.
RAB officials confirmed that the three newly arrested suspects and the seized evidence have been handed over to the Airport Police Station. Authorities noted that further suspects remain at large and that investigation efforts to apprehend the remaining individuals are ongoing.
Separately, RAB arrested 12 individuals on Wednesday for organized extortion at the Kamarpara fruit market in the Turag area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had been forcibly collecting daily payments from fruit traders, threatening those who refused with the seizure of their transport vehicles. The suspects were caught in the act, and over 11,000 taka in extortion money was recovered at the scene.
