Politico-social identity of criminal will not be seen: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said that strict operations against extortion, robbery, drugs, juvenile gangs, online gambling and cyber crimes will continue in the capital. He said, “Whoever is the culprit, his political or social identity will not be considered.”
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said these things at the ‘meet the press’ event organized at DMP’s media center on Minto Road in the capital today. This is his first ‘Meet the Press’ after taking charge as Commissioner of DMP.

In the event, Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said that one of the commitments of the current government is to ensure the development of law and order and public safety. DMP is determined to achieve this goal in Dhaka city. The slogan of the recently held Police Week-2026 was ‘My Police, My Country; First of all, Bangladesh. The police wants to work as a servant of the people by holding this philosophy.
The commissioner of DMP said that there are about three crore people living in Dhaka city. Crimes such as robbery, drug proliferation, extortion, emergence of juvenile gangs, online gambling, cyber fraud and hacking have become new challenges in this city. DMP has started a special operation from May 1 to suppress these crimes. DMP is working to prevent technology based crimes like cyber hacking, cyber bullying, online gambling, fraud. Cyber Unit of DMP is being strengthened to ensure digital security of citizens. Recently, the Digital Forensic Lab set up under the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of the DMP has been recognized by the Ministry of ICT. It will play an important role in the investigation of cyber security law cases.

Commissioner of DMP said that strict operations against extortionists, armed terrorists, drug dealers, online gambling and those involved in fraud are continuing. He said that DMP’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against extortion and any kind of extortion is effective.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad mentioned that traffic congestion is one of the biggest problems of the capital. He said that various action plans have been taken to modernize and make traffic management more effective. Awareness raising among drivers and pedestrians is also underway. The traffic management system is technologically dependent. AI-based cameras have been installed at important junctions. Prosecutions have been initiated against traffic law violations on the basis of video footage. It increases the tendency to obey the law on the road.
The Commissioner of DMP mentioned that the facility of making General Diary (GD) online for citizens, ‘Hello DMP’ to share crime related information and ‘Hotel Boarder Information System’ to identify suspects and criminals staying in hotels have been launched. He said, emphasis is being placed on technical capacity building to make DMP more people-friendly, dynamic and accountable.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said that special security measures will be taken in the capital ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. He said, the security of sacrificial animal market, Eid congregation, shopping mall and residential area will be ensured. Special security measures have been taken at bus terminals, launch ghats and railway stations to ensure safe travel of domestic people. Strict action will be taken against charging excess fare and carrying excess passengers. Additional police will be deployed for city security during the Eid holidays.
Commissioner of DMP urged to use banking channel to reduce cash transactions due to Eid. He advised to take the help of the police in case of large financial transactions. He said that police including DB have been put on maximum alert to prevent Ajyan party, Malam party, robbers and fraud gangs around Eid.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said, exchange meetings are being held in every police station. DMP wants to ensure maximum service policing with the opinion of city dwellers. In many cases it becomes difficult to work effectively without public cooperation. Therefore, he called for social resistance against extortion and drugs.
The commissioner of DMP said that it is not possible for the police alone to ensure the security of a big city like Dhaka. Sustainable development of law and order and building a safe city requires the cooperation of city dwellers. If you have information about robbers, extortionists, juvenile gangs or any crime in any area, you should immediately report it to the police. He urged to call the national emergency service number (999) if necessary. He pointed out that an accurate information of citizens can prevent major crimes or accidents.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad said that everyone should be aware of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, starting from buying and selling at the animal market to ensure overall safety. At the same time, we should cooperate to make the journey of modernization successful by complying with the traffic laws.
Addressing the journalists, the Commissioner of DMP said that besides constructive criticism, the media can play an important role in making the city residents aware by promoting the good works of the police. It is possible to make Dhaka a safe city if police, people and media work together.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmad asked the journalists to inform the police if they have any crime-related information or evidence. He said that immediate action will be taken against any policeman who delays or neglects to render service. DMP will always be engaged in public service.
