Police recover two severed human hands in Dhaka Kamrangirchar embankment area

Police in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area recovered two severed, decomposed human hands from the embankment of a flood control dam on Saturday evening. The remains were discovered on the western slope of the Babubazar-Gabtali embankment, located across from the Shahidnagar Boubazar area in Ward 57.
Authorities sent the remains to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Sunday afternoon. Forensic experts are expected to collect samples for DNA testing to determine if the hands belong to the same individual and to identify the gender of the victim.
Kamrangirchar Police Station Sub-Inspector Brojo Kishore Pal stated that officers responded to the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday following a report via the 999 national emergency hotline. Upon arrival, police found the two decomposing hands lying near a plastic bag.
The plastic bag, which was discovered at the site, was marked with the text “DMCH 2024-25 fiscal year.” According to police, one of the recovered hands remained intact with five fingers, while both limbs were found covered in mud, in a state of partial decomposition, and infested with insects. An investigation into the origin of the remains is currently underway.
