Police officer dies by suicide at Barguna barracks

A 55-year-old police officer died Sunday morning after ingesting a toxic pesticide at a police barracks in Barguna’s Taltali, according to local authorities.
The officer, identified as Faruk Hossain Gazi, was found in critical condition by his colleagues after consuming aluminum phosphide, commonly known as a “gas tablet.” He had returned to the barracks at dawn following his overnight shift before falling ill.
Fellow officers rushed Gazi to the Taltali Upazila Health Complex, where he died while undergoing treatment. According to Dr. Sohag Mia, a medical officer at the facility, the victim was brought to the hospital at approximately 9:00 a.m., with reports suggesting he had ingested the substance roughly two hours earlier.
Police recovered a suicide note left by the officer at the scene. Taltali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidul Islam confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motivations behind the death.
Gazi, a native of Angaria village in Jhalokathi’s Rajapur upazila, was the son of Ratan Ali Gazi. Authorities are currently reviewing the recovered note as part of their formal inquiry.
