Police investigate suspicious deaths of couple in Naogaon amid allegations against son

Police in the Mohadebpur sub-district of Naogaon have recovered the bodies of a married couple from their home in Paharpur village, following a suspected case of poisoning. The victims have been identified as 47-year-old Lokman Mondal and his 41-year-old wife, Delwara Begum.
Authorities were alerted to the situation early Monday morning after the couple’s son, Muktar Hossain, contacted relatives at approximately 4:00 a.m. to report that his parents had fallen ill. When neighbors arrived at the residence to assist, they discovered the bodies of the couple on their bed. Police arrived at the scene shortly after and officially recovered the remains by 10:00 a.m.
Local residents have expressed suspicion regarding the circumstances of the deaths, pointing to a history of domestic strife. According to neighbors, the couple’s son, Muktar, has long struggled with substance abuse and online mobile gambling. Reports indicate that he frequently demanded money from his parents to fund these habits, often escalating to verbal confrontations and threats against their lives. Some community members have alleged that the son may have administered a toxic substance to his parents when his financial demands were not met.
Mohadebpur Police Station officer-in-charge, Omar Farooq, confirmed that the bodies have been transported to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations. While preliminary observations suggest the couple died from poisoning, the officer emphasized that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed once medical reports are finalized.
A case of unnatural death has been filed based on a complaint lodged by the couple’s daughter. While police are aware of the allegations leveled by the community against the son, the officer-in-charge noted that no formal accusations have been made against him within the legal complaint. Officials stated that while they are currently unable to take direct action against him without further evidence, investigators remain committed to pursuing legal measures if the ongoing probe establishes any culpability involving the son or any other individuals.
