A formal police complaint has been filed in Bauphal, Patuakhali, following a public threat issued on social media against a local student leader. The controversy erupted after Ifte Ahmed Shawon, an active worker affiliated with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), posted a message on Facebook threatening to assault and publicly display the body of Md. Ruhul Amin, the convener of the Bauphal upazila unit of Chhatrashakti.

The digital confrontation began when the president of the Bauphal upazila JCD unit, Abdullah Al Fahad, posted a status criticizing rival political factions. In response, Ruhul Amin shared a post comparing the two major political symbols, the “boat” and the “sheaf of paddy,” to the venom of snakes. The situation escalated when Shawon shared a screenshot of Amin’s post, accompanied by a violent message vowing to beat Amin and hang him in front of the local police station. The post further claimed that no authority would be able to prevent the act.

The inflammatory rhetoric drew further concern as Abdullah Al Fahad, the JCD upazila president, reportedly commented on Shawon’s post, endorsing the threats and using derogatory language. The incident has drawn sharp condemnation from political figures, including Supreme Court lawyer and central leader of the National Committee of Students (NCP), Mujahidul Islam Shahin, who described the threats and the subsequent support from local party leadership as deeply troubling.

Attempts to reach Ifte Ahmed Shawon for comment were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remained switched off and he could not be located for further inquiry. Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam confirmed that a general diary (GD) has been registered regarding the incident. Authorities have initiated an investigation and have pledged to take necessary legal action based on their findings.
