Police Halt Funeral in Chittagong Over Suspicious Head Injuries on Deceased Man

Police in the Raozan upazila of Chattogram have launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a 60-year-old man after villagers discovered signs of foul play during his funeral preparations. The body of Siraj ud-Doula was transported from his home in Chattogram city to his ancestral village, Haji Talukdar Bari, on Sunday, with family members insisting he had died of natural causes.
However, the scheduled funeral prayer was halted at sunset after local residents observed bloodstains on the burial shroud and deep lacerations on the deceased’s head. Concerned by the visible injuries, which villagers described as appearing to be caused by sharp weapons, the community alerted law enforcement instead of proceeding with the burial.

Local resident Mohammad Yusuf Babul noted that the victim had been experiencing recent family discord and had been staying with relatives before returning to his own home. He and other neighbors have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Defending the family’s account, the victim’s wife, Jaheda Begum, rejected allegations of foul play. She claimed that her husband’s death was natural, asserting that the marks on his head resulted from a fall from a chair two days prior to his passing.

Raozan Police Station officer-in-charge Nizam Uddin Dewan confirmed that officers arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. to recover the body. The remains have since been sent to a hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Authorities stated that the autopsy report will be critical in determining the official cause of death and whether a criminal investigation is required.
