Police arrest 16 Awami League leaders and activists in Rangamati crackdown

Police in Rangamati have arrested 16 members and local leaders of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations following a series of targeted raids across the city. The operation, conducted by the Kotwali Police Station on Tuesday night, resulted in the detention of individuals suspected of involvement in various criminal cases.

Among those taken into custody is Mohammad Kabir, the president of the Rangamati district chapter of the Sramik League. The other detainees include Mohammad Nurul Haque, Champak Das, Mohammad Nizam Uddin, Mohammad Elias, Mohammad Ismail, Mohammad Jasim, Mohammad Nayan, Mohammad Tarikul Islam, Mohammad Russell, Shahadat Hossain, Ram Prasad Shil, Jahidul Islam, Mohammad Saiful Islam, Durjoy Kanti Dey, and Hafizur Rahman.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jasim Uddin confirmed the arrests and stated that the detainees are currently being processed for transfer to the local court.
