Netrokona Farmer Files Police Complaint After Neighbors Club Three Goats to Death

A resident of Menkifanda village in Netrokona’s Durgapur sub-district filed a police complaint late Friday after three of his goats were beaten to death, allegedly by a local landowner. The complainant, Saidul Islam, sought legal intervention after failing to secure justice through local mediation following the incident earlier that evening.
The conflict erupted when Islam’s livestock wandered near a betel nut orchard owned by Miah Hossain. According to court documents and local witnesses, Hossain’s workers initially chased the goats away and issued a threat, warning that any animals found in the orchard again would not be spared. Shortly thereafter, Islam and his wife, Ajufa Khatun, went to retrieve their herd only to discover two billy goats and a pregnant doe dead on the ground, bearing clear signs of physical trauma.

For the grieving owners, the loss represents both an emotional and financial blow. Ajufa Khatun described the animals as vital to their household income, noting that the family relied on them for their primary livelihood. The couple reported that they were unable to find local support due to the influence wielded by the accused, forcing them to transport the carcasses to the police station to register their case.
Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shaker Ahmed characterized the act as profoundly inhumane. Confirming that a formal case has been filed, authorities stated that they have launched an investigation into the matter and are currently conducting operations to apprehend the suspects. Law enforcement officials signaled that no leniency would be shown, citing reports of the accused’s long-standing reputation for aggressive behavior in the community.
