Massive inflation left behind by fallen government could wreak havoc on public life: Finance Adviser

Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Ministry of Finance and Planning, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, has expressed the fear that the number of sufferings and poverty in public life will increase due to the huge price inflation left by the fallen Awami League government. However, he said that the current government is determined to deal with the critical situation.
This was said by Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir at the discussion meeting titled ‘Equality Based Regional Development’ in the conference room of Faridpur District Administrator’s office on Friday afternoon. He was the chief guest in the meeting. Public officials of five districts of Faridpur region, district administrators and various levels of government officials participated in it.
Rashed Al Mahmoud Titumir highlighted the issue of not increasing the price of fuel oil and electricity in his welcome speech at the exchange meeting and said that the huge price inflation left by the fallen government can further incite the situation. Public life may suffer, the extreme poor may increase, the underclass may become poorer. He said that even in such a hostile environment, the current government has not adjusted or increased the prices of fuel oil and electricity out of responsibility to the farmers and the general public. We are getting such a big punishment just because we are responsible to the people.
Commenting that any crisis is nothing new to the current government, Rashed Al Mahmud said that in the past, a war-torn and famine-stricken economy was given to martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Then the country was taken forward through foreign cooperation and manpower. He said that social protection programs like family card and farmer card have been taken up in spite of such crisis. This government does not believe in rhetoric, rhetoric and social media. This government wants to build Bangladesh through harmony with everyone.
Financial adviser Rashed Al Mahmud said that the government is committed to implement the manifesto given in the election. The election manifesto announced by this government elected by the people’s vote has been transformed into a national agenda through public opinion. The Manifesto had five foundations—first the revival of the state system; Second, socio-economic development; Thirdly, state capacity building; Fourthly, revival of fragile economy, egalitarian regional development and fifthly, building a refined society through religious, cultural, sports.
Rashed Al Mahmud also said, “No political party or coalition has ever taken any measures to eliminate regional disparity.” In our manifesto, we are committed to regional development based on equity. As part of that, such meetings have been held in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions.
Finance Advisor Rashed Al Mahmoud also said that every human being should have rights, but farmers, dairy farmers and fishermen have never been respected and given rights. This is the first time in Bangladesh and arguably the first in the developing world to undertake a universal program. Family cards are being issued to women as part of the universal programme. A universal system has also been adopted in the case of agricultural cards.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid addressed the meeting as a special guest. Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur Mohammad Kamrul Hasan Mollah presided. A few members of parliament, district administrators and district council administrators from Faridpur, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Madaripur and Rajbari districts were present on the occasion.
