Man Electrocuted Erecting Bamboo Shelter

Mohammad Mamun, a 24-year-old man, died Sunday night after being electrocuted while working on a restaurant renovation in Anwara, Chattogram. The incident occurred when a bamboo pole he was lifting to the roof came into contact with an 11,000-volt power line.

Mamun was immediately rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) following the accident, which took place around 11 a.m. in the Chapatali area of Bottali Union. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

A resident of Chapatali village, Mamun was the son of Mohammad Solaiman. He was the only brother to three sisters and leaves behind a 1.5-year-old son. His untimely death has cast a pall of grief over the local community.

Local sources indicated that Mamun, who primarily worked as a CNG auto-rickshaw driver, also took on painting jobs. On Sunday, he was engaged in repairing the roof of a restaurant owned by local expatriate Mohammad Anwar when the fatal incident occurred.

Mohammad Zaber, Mamun’s maternal cousin, confirmed the tragedy, stating, “Mamun met with the accident while doing painting work at the restaurant. We are at CMCH and will arrange for the burial this afternoon.”

Md. Junaid Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Anwara Police Station, stated that the body would be handed over to the family without an autopsy, as no complaint had been filed. Police plan to register a case of unnatural death in connection with the incident.
