Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Additional Commissioner Mohammad Rashidiul Islam Khan has been withdrawn from his post following a controversial public statement that sparked widespread debate. According to an official directive issued by the Police Headquarters on Saturday, Khan has been ordered to report to the central police administration by Sunday, June 21.

The transfer order, signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General (Establishment) Raihan Uddin Khan, mandates Khan’s immediate departure from his current duties in Khulna. While the order did not explicitly detail the cause for the reassignment, senior police officials confirmed that the decision stems from remarks made by Khan during a recent community engagement meeting.

The controversy erupted after a video clip of the officer’s speech circulated widely on social media platforms. Addressing the public during a discussion on crime prevention, Khan pledged that if any information provided by citizens regarding criminals were to be leaked by police personnel, he would take drastic disciplinary action against the officers responsible, suggesting that the public would be justified in physically retaliating against them.

The comments, which many within the force categorized as inappropriate and unprofessional, drew immediate backlash from various quarters. The subsequent move by Police Headquarters to pull Khan from his command reflects the department’s effort to address the fallout from the viral footage and restore public confidence in departmental conduct.
