Japan football fans stage celebratory rally in Kushtia ahead of World Cup match

Hundreds of supporters took to the streets of Kushtia on Monday in a vibrant display of solidarity for the Japanese national football team. The procession, which featured a motorcade and a marching band, moved through the city’s primary thoroughfare, NS Road, passing through the central Thana Mor and Municipality intersections before concluding near Goshala Road.
Organized by the Kushtia Japan Supporters Group, the event drew a diverse crowd of more than a hundred participants, including men, women, and children. The spectacle featured a truck equipped with high-fidelity sound systems broadcasting slogans in support of Japan, while organizers distributed team jerseys to those in attendance.

The rally drew significant local attention as it was joined by two prominent figures in Bangladeshi football: former national men’s team player Akram Hossain and current national women’s team player Nilufa Yasmin Nila, both of whom hail from Kushtia.
The event was spearheaded by Dr. S.M. Mustanzid, who emphasized the strong diplomatic ties between Japan and Bangladesh. Speaking to the local press, he praised Japan’s status as a powerhouse in Asian football and expressed optimism that the team would secure a victory against Brazil, potentially by a two-goal margin, to advance to the round of 16.

Despite her personal allegiance to the Brazilian squad, Nilufa Yasmin Nila noted that she attended the event at the invitation of Dr. Mustanzid to support the local initiative. Looking toward the future of the sport, she expressed a collective hope that the Bangladeshi national flag would one day be represented on the global stage at the World Cup.
Akram Hossain, reflecting on the competitive nature of the tournament, acknowledged the inherent unpredictability of the sport while expressing his anticipation for an engaging match.
