Islami Chhatra Shibir Demands RAKSU Election Schedule and Administrative Reforms at Rajshahi University

RAJSHAHI – The Rajshahi University unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir has issued a five-point demand to the university administration, highlighted by a formal request to announce the schedule for the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) election. The organization announced these demands during a press conference held Tuesday afternoon at the university’s Transport Market, followed by the submission of a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor.

The demands put forward by the student organization include the formulation of a clear roadmap to ensure 100% residential facilities for all students, the introduction of housing allowances for non-residential students, the establishment of a modern and comprehensive medical center, and the activation of the university senate.

During the press conference, Mujahid Faisal, president of the university unit of Chhatra Shibir, read a written statement emphasizing that the RAKSU election should be integrated into the university’s academic calendar. He noted that ten months have already elapsed since the previous term, and argued that the administration must initiate preparatory steps immediately to ensure the election schedule is announced in a timely manner.

Addressing concerns regarding the official budget expenditures of RAKSU General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar, Faisal challenged the transparency of the financial records. He claimed that the General Secretary had withdrawn 370,000 taka for administrative duties, attributing the costs to various departments, a figure the organization deems unrealistic. According to their internal calculations, total expenditures across all relevant departments should not exceed 50,000 to 60,000 taka. Faisal demanded that the administration release a detailed, evidence-based breakdown of these expenses, asserting that the organization will not accept responsibility for the financial activities of the current General Secretary, as he was not elected from their panel.

The press conference was attended by the university unit’s General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Publicity and Media Secretary Mehedi Sajib, alongside several elected RAKSU representatives and organizational leaders.
