Information Minister Andalib Rahman Partha says government is processing long-awaited Barishal-Bhola bridge project

Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho announced on Wednesday that the government is actively working to fulfill the long-standing demand for the construction of the Barishal-Bhola bridge. Speaking during his maiden visit to his constituency, Bhola-1, following his appointment as a cabinet minister, Partho confirmed that the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the bridge is currently awaiting official approval.

The minister arrived at the Kheyaghat area in Bhola Sadar upazila by speedboat from Barishal on Wednesday afternoon, where he was greeted by local administrative officials, law enforcement personnel, and representatives from various political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). A large crowd gathered along the route from Kheyaghat to Notun Bazar to welcome the minister.

Addressing a public rally at the Notun Bazar square, Partho emphasized that the bridge remains a priority for the government. He cautioned the public against misinformation, urging citizens to remain united as the government evaluates the bridge project alongside alternative connectivity solutions for the island district.

Beyond transportation, the minister outlined several development initiatives for Bhola, including the establishment of a medical college, measures to prevent riverbank erosion, and significant upgrades to urban infrastructure.

Regarding the local political climate, the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman asserted that he does not subscribe to the politics of vengeance. He stated that his office remains open to all political entities, including Jamaat-e-Islami, and expressed his intent to serve all constituents regardless of their voting history.

Partho issued a stern warning against extortion, tender manipulation, and irregularities in government projects. He encouraged the public to report any evidence of corruption or the use of substandard construction materials directly to the local administration or to him, promising zero tolerance for such misconduct.

Reflecting on his tenure, which began with his first parliamentary victory in 2008, Partho acknowledged the unwavering support of the people of Bhola. He expressed deep gratitude, stating that he views himself not merely as a minister or a lawmaker, but as a lifelong representative of the local community.
