Officials started official work by breaking these locks in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Taufiq Alam on Thursday afternoon.
The agitating teachers termed this incident as unintended and said that the vice-chancellor is showing his willful reluctance to these demands by one after the other unfair behavior by ignoring the fair demands of the teachers. The Vice-Chancellor did not act like a teacher by breaking the lock by announcing yesterday.

According to eyewitness sources, Barisal Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed came to the university this morning in the ongoing situation. At this time he had a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor. Later, the agitating teachers were called for discussion, but they did not agree. After that, the vice chancellor ordered to break the locks installed in various offices of the administrative building. These locks are broken by bringing a mason from outside. At that time the Vice Chancellor was present there. Later he visited various offices and talked to the officials and employees.
Earlier, during the exchange of views with various journalist organizations and activist organizations of the university yesterday afternoon, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the teachers will be called for discussion today and requested to withdraw the shutdown. If you don’t agree, all the offices will be locked.

Last Monday, the agitating teachers started a complete shutdown program in academic and administrative activities by hanging locks in various offices of the administrative building, disobeying the vice-chancellor. The agitating teachers are adamant that they will continue their agitation until their demands are met.
Hafiz Ashraful Haque, Dean and Associate Professor of the Faculty of Biology told Prothom Alo in the afternoon, “We were called for a discussion. But many lie. A fair demand of the teachers is being deliberately ignored. He further said that the issue of promotion of teachers is not related to money, it is only a matter of respect. The Vice-Chancellor is reluctant to ensure that respect to the teachers.
Regarding breaking the lock, Ashraful Haque said, “He (Vice-Chancellor) broke the lock by announcing publicly. Now consider whether it goes with a vice chancellor. Because, he is a teacher first, then vice-chancellor.
In this regard, Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Taufiq Alam said, “Divisional Commissioner and City Police Commissioner came to the campus this morning and called the teachers for discussion. But they have expressed their inability to come. So, thinking about the future of the students, we have opened the door to manage the administrative work.
Barisal divisional commissioner and university syndicate member Khalil Ahmed told Prothom Alo, “We have sat with the teachers three times. In a one time discussion we all agreed that two tires would be promoted. Like Lecturer to Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. And the 12 professors who are subject to promotion have not been created. Therefore, initiatives will be taken to promote them by framing the statute. They agreed. After that, they again went to the movement. Noting that there is no opportunity to do anything outside the law, he further said that they should also take into consideration how reasonable it is to hold the students as hostages.
