If people cannot go abroad on this opportunity, I will have regrets: Expatriate Welfare Minister

Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that there is a great demand for agricultural workers abroad, “If the people of this area cannot go abroad on this opportunity, if I am the minister of this ministry, I will have regrets.”

He said this while addressing the Chief Guest at the Farmers Card distribution ceremony at Juri, Moulvibazar, on the first day of Bengali New Year, Tuesday (April 14) at noon. Moulvibazar District Administration and District Agriculture Extension Directorate organized this event.

However, noting that they cannot just be sent abroad, the expatriate welfare minister said, “I have asked to open a training center here (Juri). In this case, the cooperation of the Department of Agricultural Extension will also be needed. At the same time, language education courses should be introduced in training centers. Arabic in the Middle East, Japanese in Japan, English in Europe. Minimum standards must be maintained even if not very proficient in the language. And if we have this qualification, we have a golden opportunity in front of us.

At the beginning of the program, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman auspiciously inaugurated the virtual farmer card distribution program in 11 upazilas of the country including Juri.

Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, seeing the display of various varieties of locally produced fruits in front of the stage, “I saw sweet gourds, watermelons, lemons, bananas here and asked the local member of parliament where they are from.” He (Member of Parliament) said, from this area. I said, more and more you increase the production. These products should be available in the market (bazar) of the entire Sylhet division. These products can also be exported abroad. The couple will become known in the world court. Farmers will also get the right price for their products. The government will provide full cooperation in this regard.

In response to a question from journalists at the end of the speech, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the government is bringing Bangladeshi citizens who were trapped in the Middle East during the war and who want to return home. And strict action will be taken against the Adam traders who send people abroad illegally. They have been asked to investigate. People should also be aware of going abroad in illegal and risky ways.

The program started at the ground of Bashir Ullah High School of Fultala Union of the upazila around 12 noon. Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Tauhiduzzaman Pavel presided over it. Special guest speech was given by Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Member of Parliament of Moulvibazar-1 Constituency, Shawkatul Islam, Member of Parliament of Moulvibazar-2 Constituency, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Member of Parliament of Moulvibazar-4 Constituency, Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, Sylhet range of police organized Moulvibazar DIG. Mushfekur Rahman, Moulvibazar district BNP convenor Faizul Karim Mayun, Moulvibazar district council administrator Mizanur Rahman and Moulvibazar district BNP member secretary Abdur Rahim.

In the event, the chief guest handed over a farmer card and a tree sapling to some farmers of Fultala block of the upazila.

According to the Agriculture Department, 650 farmers and 171 Kisani farmers of Ward No. 1 of Phultala Union got the card. Through this card, farmers can buy various types of agricultural inputs at fair prices from designated shops. Apart from this, landless, small and marginal farmers will get financial assistance of Tk 2,500 to buy agricultural inputs through the card.
