I was shot in the hand during a peaceful march
Md mentioned in the deposition that a bullet hit his right wrist while participating in a peaceful procession in Rajshahi during the July mass uprising. A witness named Maruf Al Hasan.
Maruf testified as the 25th witness at the International Criminal Tribunal-2 in a case against seven defendants including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the mass uprising.
Apart from Obaidul Quader, the other accused in this case are Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nashim, former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and general secretary Mainul Hossain Khan and Chhatra League central president Saddam Hossain and general secretary Sheikh Walif Asi. All the accused are absconding.
Maruf, a resident of Rajshahi’s Boalia police station, was trying to get a job after completing his studies during the July uprising and was involved in a small business, he stated in his deposition today. In the deposition, Maruf said that on August 5, 2024, they gathered for a protest march at Talaimari Junction in Rajshahi around 10 am. Around 1:00 PM, when the procession reached Sahebbazar Zero Point in front of Swachh Tower at Alupatti intersection, Awami League, Jubo League, Swachhasebak League and Chhatra League attacked them armed. Many of them were injured and shot there.
Maruf said that they were forced to retreat for some time, but later they got organized and marched forward. Later, Awami League, Jubo League and police attacked their peaceful procession in concert. Then a bullet hit his right wrist. He said, he is still undergoing treatment. He still cannot work normally with his right hand.
Maruf demanded maximum punishment for the deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Obaidul Quader, Bahauddin Nashim, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Shams, Mainul Hossain, Saddam Hossain, Sheikh Wali Asif, Rubel and Rozel of Rajshahi.
