Two Brothers Die After Mysterious Illness in Natore as Investigation Begins

Authorities in Natore’s Lalpur upazila have launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths of two young brothers who passed away within twenty-four hours of one another, a tragedy that has left their father hospitalized in critical condition.
The victims, eight-year-old Tuhin Ali and his four-year-old brother Tushar, resided in the village of Mohorkoya Notunpara. According to family members and local police, the household had been functioning under the care of the children’s father, farmer Morjem Ali, since his wife, Tuli Khatun, reportedly left for her parents’ home on July 13 following a domestic dispute.

The sequence of events began late Thursday night when Tuhin fell ill after consuming a meal of bananas and flattened rice. His condition deteriorated rapidly, characterized by severe vomiting, and he was rushed to the Lalpur Upazila Health Complex, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. He was laid to rest the following day at a local cemetery.
The tragedy deepened on Friday afternoon when the younger brother, Tushar, began experiencing similar symptoms. He was initially admitted to the local health complex before being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he died Saturday morning. Upon the return of his body to the family home, Morjem Ali collapsed from grief. He was rushed to the Lalpur Upazila Health Complex, and due to his declining health, was subsequently moved to Natore Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Rajshahi for specialized care.

The grandfather of the two boys, Habibor Rahman, has publicly alleged that the deaths were not accidental but the result of premeditated foul play. He has formally requested a thorough, impartial investigation to uncover the circumstances behind the incident.
Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam confirmed that law enforcement is treating the deaths as highly suspicious. The children’s mother has filed a formal case of unnatural death. To assist in the investigation, Tushar’s body has been sent to the Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination.
