Husband detained following death of wife in Dhaka domestic dispute

Police in the capital have arrested a man on charges of strangling his wife to death following a domestic dispute at their residence in the Gulbagh area of Shahjahanpur.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Swapna Khatun, while her husband, the suspect in custody, is Rubel Mia.
Sub-Inspector Md. Obaidul of Shahjahanpur Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that officers recovered the victim’s body from a rented apartment at premises number 334 in Gulbagh on Sunday morning. Following preliminary legal procedures, the body was transported to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Sunday evening.
Investigators reported that the couple had moved into the apartment earlier this month. Neighbors informed police that they heard heated arguments between the couple late Saturday night and again on Sunday morning. Authorities believe that during the course of the altercation, Rubel Mia strangled his wife, resulting in her death at the scene.
Rubel Mia is currently being held at the police station for interrogation. Swapna Khatun was a native of Tilatia village in Phulpur Upazila of Mymensingh, while her husband is from the Sandiya area of Mymensingh Sadar. Police confirmed that preparations to file a formal murder case are currently underway.
