Health Directorate Orders Relocation of Patients Following Ad-Deen Hospital License Revocation

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has revoked the operating license of Ad-Deen Hospital in Dhaka following a high-profile investigation into the deaths of six newborns at the facility last month. Authorities have now ordered the immediate transfer of all current patients to other suitable medical centers to ensure continuity of care.

Professor Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Director General of the DGHS, advised patients currently undergoing treatment at the Moghbazar-based facility to relocate, stating that it is unsafe to remain in a hospital that no longer holds a valid license. He further noted that the health directorate is prepared to provide necessary assistance to any patients or families requiring support during the transition.

The closure stems from a formal inquiry launched after the sudden deaths of six infants on May 27. Following the incident, a committee was established under the provisions of the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance of 1982 to review the hospital’s operational standards.

On June 4, the health regulator issued a formal show-cause notice to the hospital administration, demanding an explanation as to why its license should not be permanently cancelled. Despite being granted a deadline of June 7 to submit a response, the decision to revoke the license was finalized following the regulatory review of the committee’s findings.
